Stars Hire Dave Matsos as Head Coach

The St. Thomas Stars are excited to announce Dave Matsos as the organization’s new Head Coach.

Dave, a St. Thomas native, has an extensive coaching history including 11 years in the Ontario Hockey League, where he spent 4 seasons as the Head Coach of the Sudbury Wolves and Hamilton Bulldogs as well as 7 seasons as an Assistant/Associate Coach between Windsor and Hamilton. Dave has spent the last two seasons with the London Nationals in the GOJHL. Prior to his time in the OHL, Dave spent 5 years coaching professionally in Europe. Dave has also represented Canada as an Assistant Coach in both the U17 tournament and the Canada-Russia series.

Dave brings a history of success to the Stars being a 3-time OHL Champion (playing and coaching), a Memorial Cup Champion as a player, a 5-time Elite League Champion, and a 2-time challenge cup Champion in Europe.
Dave was the Head Coach for the winning GOJHL team at the 2023 MacPherson tournament.

“We are thrilled to bring in someone of Dave’s pedigree to lead this group of young athletes.” said Stars’ General Manager Paul Gibson, “His preparation, the way he thinks the game and the ability to teach and relate to the players were the attributes that made Dave so attractive to help excel this program.”
