Stars Hire Alumni as Assistant Coach

The St. Thomas Stars are excited to announce St. Thomas native Dane Johnstone as the club’s new Assistant Coach.  Dane played his minor hockey with the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs and went on to junior hockey, starting his rookie season with the Stars, where he was selected as the ‘Fan Favourite’.  Dane played 2 seasons with the Flint Firebirds of the OHL and finished his junior career as Captain of the Chatham Maroons.  Dane played with the Strathroy Jets of the WOSHL the last couple of seasons.

“Adding a young hockey mind like Dane is great for our program and our forward group. Dane was a fearless leader and highly respected as a player amongst his peers and coaches. He will bring leadership and enthusiasm to our group.” said Stars General Manager Paul Gibson.

Following his junior career, Dane has coached with the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs program and has been involved with a variety of spring teams. When not at the rink, Dane is a Lineperson with Entegrus and a volunteer firefighter with Central Elgin-Union.
