The St. Thomas Stars have long been recognized as an excellent stepping stone in the development of young hockey talent. Every time a former Star succeeds, we feel proud to have been a part of that journey. As a hockey club, we are committed to celebrating the achievements of our alumni and supporting every player’s growth — pushing them to go further, work harder, and become the best versions of themselves.
The 2025 NHL Draft brought some incredible news for the Stars family: two of our alumni, Aleksei Medvedev and Trenten Bennett, were drafted! We’re thrilled to highlight and celebrate their recent accomplishments.
Aleksei Medvedev
Goaltender Aleksei Medvedev proudly wore #7 for the St. Thomas Stars during the 2023–2024 season, where he posted a solid .904 save percentage over 28 games. He continued to shine in the 2024–2025 season with the London Knights of the OHL, donning #78 and playing in 34 games with an improved .912 SV%. That same season, the Knights captured the Memorial Cup — a crowning achievement. On June 28, 2025, Aleksei was selected 47th overall in the 2nd round by the Vancouver Canucks. Congratulations, Aleksei — we’re so proud of you!
Trenten Bennett
Hailing from Kitchener, Ontario, Trenten Bennett joined the St. Thomas Stars for the second half of the 2023–2024 season, where he wore #31 and recorded a .916 SV% over 16 games. In 2024–2025, Trenten split his time between the Kemptville 73’s of the CCHL (31 games, .912 SV%) and the Owen Sound Attack (6 games, .923 SV%), wearing #30. His consistent performance caught the attention of NHL scouts. On June 28, 2025, Trenten was selected 99th overall in the 4th round by the New Jersey Devils. Way to go, Trenten — your journey is just beginning!
To Aleksei and Trenten — the galaxy is proud of you. We can’t wait to see how far your shooting star flies. Being part of the Stars galaxy is something special. Whether you’re on the ice, in the locker room, or in the stands, Stars shine brightest when they’re supported by the whole cosmos — our coaches, families, sponsors, and fans. Without you, we wouldn’t shine nearly as bright.
With so much excitement in store for the 2025–2026 season, we can’t wait to see you back in the galaxy.
From the Cosmos,
